San Diego Cellfina™ Cellulite Reduction
Rock a Shorter Hemline with Confidence
Life is full of bumps along the way, including cellulite. This pesky condition can impact anyone and is the result of fat pushing against the connective tissues under your skin, causing the skin to pucker and dimple. Many women experience it at some point in their lives, and it is notoriously difficult to tone or reduce with topical creams.
That’s why we’re excited to offer our patients in San Diego a new treatment for long-lasting reduction of cellulite: Cellfina™. This minimally invasive procedure is the only FDA-approved procedure for improving the appearance of cellulite for at least a year—the longest of any comparable treatments.
How Cellfina Works to Smooth Away Cellulite
Unlike topical treatments, Cellfina reduces cellulite by treating it at the source: the connective bands (fibro septae) that are woven through fat deposits to connect your skin to your muscles, creating the dimpled effect.Since 1988, more than 30,000 patients have had safe, successful procedures at La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre.
Cellfina is based on a simple solution: If tight connective tissues contribute to cellulite, then releasing these bands will help smooth out dimpling. Previously, the only options for manually cutting these bands involved a surgical subcision procedure or going under the skin with a laser. Cellfina automates this process, providing the same effective end result without using lasers or manual cutting. The Cellfina device is around the size of a smartphone and requires no lasers, heat, or radio-frequency—the device is entirely mechanical and does not impact surrounding tissues.
What to Expect from Your Cellfina Treatment
Before your treatment, one of our board certified plastic surgeons will evaluate your trouble areas and determine which dimples will be treated for maximum benefit. Each dimple will be marked with a circle prior to your treatment and numbed with lidocaine to ensure your comfort throughout the treatment.
The Cellfina device is then placed on the marked dimples where it will suction up the area of skin. A very small, sharp blade will then be mechanically inserted about 6 millimeters under your skin to sever the band that is causing cellulite. To treat an average of about 25 dimples, it should take only around an hour—soon after which you can resume your normal activities.
After Your Cellfina Treatment: Great Results with Little Downtime
Because the blade used is so small, patients should experience no bleeding. Minimal bruising can be expected, but should resolve very quickly after treatment. The area may be slightly tender, but most of our patients report that taking an over-the-counter pain medication, such as Tylenol, was sufficient for managing discomfort for the first day or two.
Most of our patients are thrilled with their results after just one treatment. Your skin will look significantly smoother and healthier soon after treatment and will further improve over the course of three months—and you’ll be able to enjoy those results for at least a year!
