Hymenoplasty is a procedure designed to reconstruct or to mimic the appearance of a hymen. In some cultures, the hymen is a symbol of purity and virginity, and cultural mores value an intact hymen when a woman marries.
The hymen can be ruptured for many reasons: trauma, sporting activities or heavy menstrual periods. A hymenoplasty reconstructs the hymen, recreating the appearance of an intact hymen.
Hymenoplasty is an outpatient procedure, as are all our vaginal rejuvenation procedures, and takes about an hour to complete.
San Diego Plastic Surgeon Johan E. Brahme, M.D., is specially trained to perform the aesthetic vaginal surgery procedures. Please call La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre, San Diego at (858) 452-1981 for more information.
The specific risks and the suitability of hymenoplasty surgery for a given individual can be determined only at the time of consultation at our San Diego plastic surgery office. All surgical procedures have some degree of risk. Minor complications that do not affect the outcome of hymenoplasty occur occasionally. Major complications are rare. The information on this San Diego plastic surgeons’ website is not a substitute for a consultation.
