Botox Injections

Revolutionary Botox Injections can relax your wrinkles. Unbeknownst to most people, the regular facial expressions we make when happy and sad cause lines in our faces that can add to our "wrinkled" appearance. Furrowed brows, crow's feet and frown lines are visible examples of our emotions that can effect our everyday appearance.

La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre offers a treatment for this problem. A unique concept in treating facial wrinkles, Botox presents a natural, non-surgical way to treat the aging face. Botulinum toxin, or Botox, works by weakening the muscles of facial expression that cause wrinkles. As the muscles relax, the skin flattens out and wrinkles fade away.

Although silicon, collagen, and autologous fat injections have been around for some time, they work by filling in a wrinkle with an added substance. Botox works by physiologically weakening the muscles, removing the wrinkles naturally.

"Botox is used primarily to enhance your appearance, and does not take the place of standard plastic surgical procedures such as facelift, eyelid lifts and laser skin resurfacing," states Dr. Olesen. "Rather, Botox has the ability to temporarily improve areas that are not addressed by these operations."

The treatment is extremely effective, although it is not permanent. When the toxin starts to wear off after several months, wrinkles may return. However, upon return the wrinkles are frequently not as deep. At that time, patients may elect to repeat the treatment. Dr. Olesen estimates that 2-3 injections per year may be necessary to maintain the desired appearance.

"A fantastic, natural treatment for lines and wrinkles caused by muscular facial expressions, particularly in the upper third of the face, Botox is less effective on wrinkles formed by other causes," adds Dr. Olesen. "Wrinkles in areas affected by trauma such as sun damage are less likely to respond well to the Botox treatments."

The toxin works best in patients aged 30 to 60. Patients in older age categories often have wrinkles caused by sun damage and not muscle pull, and therefore do not experience the same level of success with this treatment.

La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre is currently scheduling consultations with patients who wish to discuss Botox injections. During consultation, the areas that are most amenable to improvement with the toxin are discussed in relation to the patient's individual needs. Average costs for the Botox treatment range between $150 - $500 per injection.
