You may be a candidate for jaw enlargement surgery if you feel that your jaw width is too narrow. Jaw enlargement may also be desired for anyone who wants a squarer look to their face or jaw. The intended result is for the face and jaws to look wider following the procedure.

This procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. A consultation and preoperative planning determines how much augmentation of the jaw is desirable. An incision is made in the mucous membranes near the wisdom teeth, the pocket for the implant dissected, the implants placed and the incision closed. A puncture through the skin over the jaw may be necessary if the implants are fixed in place with screws.
