Strattice for Fold Malposition

Correcting Fold Malposition with Strattice™

The form and defining borders of the breasts are affected by natural folds which should provide gentle curvatures under and on both sides of the breasts. These folds give the breasts definition and help maintain the breasts’ shape and position.

The role of the breast folds in augmentation

Do you know what the folds under and around your breast have to do with great breast augmentation results? Here’s the answer in a nutshell.

During breast augmentation, your surgeon creates a pocket under the breast tissue where your implant will go. The folds below the breast (inframammary fold) and on the sides of the breast (lateral fold) act as important markers when creating the pocket, assisting with desired placement, so your results look natural and balanced.

What is fold malposition?

“Fold malposition” is a condition in which either of these folds have moved. This may be due to loss of skin elasticity or a breakdown of pocket boundaries. Should this occur, the breast pocket may drift to the outside of the chest or appear to have dropped. The implant will no longer be in the desired position.

Surgical Correction with Strattice™

In these cases, breast revision surgery is typically needed to correct the fold malposition and improve the appearance of the breasts. Your surgeon may use Strattice™ Reconstructive Tissue Matrix to help recreate the fold.

After readjusting the pocket and rebuilding the affected folds, your surgeon may add strips of Strattice™ around the newly repaired fold. This can help provide extra support, helping to ensure that your breasts stay in the desired location and improving breast symmetry.
