Feeling Fabulous (Again!) in San Diego

ljcsc-patient-bethanyBethany always loved the way she felt in her own body—confident, feminine, and empowered. But after having her first child, she considered cosmetic surgery for the first time. Pregnancy had taken its toll, leaving Bethany feeling self-conscious about her figure:

“Prior to having a baby, I would have never considered changing anything on my body, but in life there are unpredictable changes that happen to our bodies that can make us feel as though we have lost a part of ourselves.”

A Shout-Out to Post Weight Loss Patients!

by Dr. Lori Saltz

It takes determination, perseverance, and dedication to lose weight. The feat is particularly satisfying when you’ve been carrying around the extra pounds for years and finally made that lasting commitment to change. You deserve recognition for how great you look, but more importantly, the effort you’ve made may actually have prolonged, or even saved, your life.

Most likely the weight loss has enhanced your energy levels, giving you the vigor and vitality you need to enjoy life to the fullest. Chances are you’ve reduced your blood pressure, lowered your cholesterol, and balanced your blood sugar levels, all benefits that significantly impact your longevity and reduce the odds that you’ll have a stroke or heart attack or develop diabetes because of poor health.

Size Isn’t Everything—But Symmetry Is!

Do you remember your teenage years and all those insecurities? Being a teenager is difficult enough as it is—now imagine if your body develops unevenly. LJCSC patient Brittany had to cope with all of that at once.

At about age 15, Brittany noticed a significant difference in the development of her breasts. She began to research her options for breast augmentation surgery as a way to even up the size of her breasts.

Although she was bothered by the contrast in her breast sizes, Brittany was apprehensive about a surgical procedure. She also recalls, “Because I was an athlete, there never seemed to be a good time to have it done.” Despite her concerns, Brittany eventually decided to pursue her breast surgery.

Is Breast Lift surgery worth it?

by Lori H. Saltz, MD

Life can take a toll on your breasts. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight gain or loss, and aging can cause your breasts to change and your skin to stretch. One day, you notice that your breasts aren’t where or what they used to be.

The San Diego climate allows you to spend much of the year in clothing designed to show off your figure. Unfortunately, if you have sagging breasts, it can be disheartening to be forced to give up skin-baring tops. And it goes beyond clothes in public. Many women wear a bra to bed to avoid having their husbands or partners see their breasts. Sexy, huh? Many Southern California women choose breast lift surgery to enhance their figures and boost their self-esteem, but also to just not have to think about it all the time.

“You’ve changed my life!” – Actual Patient

Thank You Card

Dr. Saltz,

You’ve changed my life!

Thank you so much for all the beautiful work you’ve done on me. I have a lot of friends who have had body contouring—but none have achieved the same results. I can’t believe I’ve gone from a size 29–30 to a size 25. Not only do I look better than I have looked ever in my life, but also I feel good and more confident than ever.

A special thanks for everything from me and of course, my hubby! :-)

Thanks

My world is so happy! Physically and mentally! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Latisse Won’t Make Your Blue Eyes Brown

Lori H. Saltz, MD

I have always been lucky enough to have long eyelashes. Yet when Latisse became available, I thought “why not make a good thing even better?”

If you’re not familiar with Latisse, it is a prescription treatment that helps eyelashes grow longer, thicker, and darker by applying a thin line of the product to the upper eyelid, at base of your eyelashes.

Remember the old song lyric by Crystal Gayle, “Don’t it my my brown eyes blue”?  This made me think about a topic that many of my patients ask about… “Will using Latisse make my blue eyes become brown?” In a word, no, and the reason is simple.

In 8th grade, just when life is beginning to throw so many challenges at you, she weighed 225 pounds and wore a size 22. “I’m a southern girl from Alabama and grew up loving food. When I was a teenager, I moved in with my grandparents and started to become aware of how unhealthy my weight was. My grandmother sent me to nutrition classes and I lost some weight.”

Hopefully the rain is over and the sun is out. Are you casting your glances toward the beaches? The stores are stocked with newest swimwear. So you’ve checked it out. The problem is the same every year. There’s no way to disguise that gap up top. You just can’t pull it off one more summer.

Restoring her figure post-lumpectomy, patient says, “I finally feel comfortable in my own skin”

ljcsc-patient-carla

When it comes to plastic surgery, almost every patient has a different story and motivation for deciding when the time is right. For Carla, a mother of five, ranging in ages from 14 to 26 years, she had many reasons. “I think having plastic surgery was always in the back of my mind, but being able to justify spending that money on myself was difficult.” Never one to really lack self-confidence, Carla says two life-changing moments made her change the way she felt about her body. “About 20 years ago I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. The way they performed the surgery left me with this big fold of skin on my stomach that never went away.” Years later, a lumpectomy was performed on one of her breasts, leaving her feeling lopsided. “Luckily the lesion was benign but because they took so much breast tissue, I could never get clothes to fit right.” A recommendation from a friend led her to Dr. Lori Saltz, a board certified plastic surgeon and Medical Director at La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre.
