When it comes to getting a totally natural look with fillers, one size does NOT fit all—and the popular filler manufacturer Restylane understands this. The most recent additions to the Restylane® family, Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne, are great options to smooth moderate to deep facial lines and folds, and we’re proud to offer them both at LJCSC.

How are Refyne and Defyne different from regular Restylane?

All Restylane fillers are gels made from hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance in the skin that can hold many times its weight in water and works fabulously to help restore facial volume and smooth lines and wrinkles.

Refyne and Defyne are made with the latest technology, XpresHAn™, which blends the HA particles in a way that lets the filler move more naturally with your facial expressions. While your injectable provider’s skill matters most in achieving an effective, natural-looking result, Refyne and Defyne are designed to help avoid the stiff or unnatural feeling that can sometimes occur with deeper filler injections in parts of the face that move frequently and dynamically.

Restylane Refyne vs. Defyne

Refyne and Defyne are very similar products, with slightly different consistencies. Defyne is slightly thicker and therefore can be injected a little more deeply to treat more severe folds (it may help to think the “D” in Defyne stands for “deep”).

What can Restylane Refyne treat?

  • Smile lines
  • Parentheses
  • Marionette lines
  • Moderate nasolabial folds

What can Restylane Defyne treat?

  • Deep laugh lines
  • Severe nasolabial folds
  • Marionette lines

Do filler injections hurt?

Our plastic surgeons and PA/RN providers use a very thin, short needle to inject the filler, which is infused with the mild anesthetic lidocaine to enhance comfort. Most patients experience a brief pinching sensation and pressure during treatment. Numbing cream may be used to help with discomfort.

Enjoy pain-free filler injections with add-on option PRO-NOX™

Every patient deserves a comfortable experience, so we now offer an add-on option to use PRO-NOX™, a self-administered nitrous oxide (laughing gas) system that allows you to be in full control of your comfort.

If at any point you feel you need something to take the edge off, simply breathe through the PRO-NOX™ mouthpiece for instant relief from pain and anxiety. Unlike oral pain medication, PRO-NOX™ takes effect in seconds, but these effects wear off minutes. You can safely drive and return to your normal routine without worrying about side effects.

Ask us about adding PRO-NOX™ to your treatment at your consultation, or contact us for more information!

How long do Refyne and Defyne last?

Restylane Refyne/Defyne both typically last about 9 to 12 months. However, everyone is different. Some patients are happy with their results for longer than a year, while others choose to repeat treatment more frequently.

Hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Restylane products, are safely absorbed by the body and metabolized and eliminated naturally over time. If you’re interested in a filler that will last longer than 12 months, you may consider Sculptra.
