Ultherapy is the only non-invasive treatment FDA cleared to lift skin on the neck, chin, and brow as well as to improve wrinkles on the decolletage. Ultherapy uses micro-focused ultrasound (the same technology used in imaging) to lift and tighten the skin. The ultrasound waves work deep below the surface—without needles or surgery—for firming, tightening and lifting.
Just 1 or 2 Ultherapy treatments can help you achieve a sleeker, better-defined jawline and tighter skin on the neck under the chin. With Ultherapy, we can help you:
- Lift & firm sagging skin on the cheeks, which in turn can improve folds around the nose, mouth, and jaw and lift drooping corners of the mouth.
- Promote a more open, refreshed look to your eyes by tightening skin in the brow area.
- Improve skin texture and balance out color.
- Strengthen and reinforce your collagen “cushion” for a firmer, more youthful complexion overall.
Ultherapy isn’t a substitute for facelift surgery, but it can be the perfect solution to treat early jowling and sagging or to gain moderate improvements in your neck and jawline if you prefer a non-surgical option.
Ultherapy Featured in The New York Times
A recent NY Times article highlighted Ultherapy among other ultrasound aesthetic treatments. Find out why one patient calls Ultherapy her “way-back machine” and get more details about this innovative new procedure.
If you’ve ever had an ultrasound before, Ultherapy treatment will seem familiar. We’ll place a smooth applicator on your skin, which projects an image onto a screen. We’ll then deliver low levels of focused heat at just the right depth below the skin, leaving the skin’s surface undisturbed.
What happens after that? Your skin responds to the energy by triggering new collagen production. This is good news, because the collagen forms a sturdy structure for your skin, giving it natural lift and firmness over time. You will see some immediate tightening and lifting, but optimal results are apparent after 2-3 months.
Ultherapy prices in San Diego are individualized and vary depending on your goals and the area(s) you are having treated. At LJC, our Ultherapy prices range from $800 for a single, small treatment area to $4,500 for a full face and neck treatment.
First, Ultherapy is non-invasive: there are no needles, no ablative laser, and no downtime. The procedure takes 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the area(s) treated. Second, it is the only cosmetic skin tightening procedure that uses ultrasound imaging, which allows our providers to see the tissue layers that are targeted during treatment and direct the ultrasound energy where it’s needed most.
Ultherapy is the only skin rejuvenation procedure that uses ultrasound to image and treat the skin, and, unlike many lasers, it does so without removing layers of skin, eliminating the need for downtime and minimizing risk of scarring. The ultrasound in Ultherapy stimulates collagen production in the skin’s foundation, helping achieve a visible lift in just 2 to 3 months for the typical patient.

Comfort levels vary from person to person, but no anesthesia is required. Many patients describe a temporary prickling or warm feeling as the ultrasound energy is delivered during treatment. We also offer the add-on option of using PRO-NOX nitrous oxide gas (a.k.a. laughing gas) to enhance your comfort and help you relax during Ultherapy treatments.
Ultherapy is designed to treat the entire upper or lower face, neck, or chest. We can treat your lower face & neck, forehead & temples, décolletage, or all three! We’ll tailor your treatment plan to your unique needs.
The collagen-building process starts right away, but the full effect will build gradually over the next 2 to 3 months. In the FDA clinical trial, 9 out of 10 patients had a noticeable, significant lift of the brow line. This resulted in a more open look to the eyes and a more youthful appearance overall.
Patients reported firmer, tighter, better-fitting skin in other areas of the face and neck as well. Smoother texture and more even skin color are possible bonus benefits.
While Ultherapy treats the deep tissue layers of the face and/or neck, no non-invasive procedure can achieve the same results as surgery. For significant skin sagging or jowling, a surgical facelift is still likely your best option for dramatic improvements. However, for patients with mild to moderate sagging, Ultherapy can be an excellent alternative to a facelift to achieve noticeable, long-lasting skin tightening and lifting.
There is no downtime with Ultherapy—you can return to your normal activities right away.
Your skin may appear a bit flushed after treatment, but any redness should disappear within a few hours. You may also feel mild tenderness, swelling, or tingling under the treated areas, which is normal and temporary.
Since Ultherapy stimulates a person’s own collagen production, how long the results last depends on the individual. Most patients produce new collagen up to 1 year after treatment. Of course, your skin will continue its natural aging process, so you may need to schedule a periodic touch-up treatment to maintain your results.
We’ll determine that at your consultation, but most patients are happy after just 1 or 2 treatments in each area. We’ll take before & after photographs to help you see the difference and decide if you would like additional treatments.
Collagen is a natural protein that gives skin its youthfulness by keeping it firm and toned. As we age, collagen breaks down, resulting in loss of skin elasticity. This can lead to wrinkles, sagging, and general loss of skin tone. Ultherapy uses micro-focused ultrasound to generate a thermal effect, which essentially jump-starts the collagen production process, helping your skin rebuild collagen from within.
A good candidate for Ultherapy is bothered by some degree of skin laxity that looks and feels less firm than they would like, and who does not want or need surgery to achieve their desired level of improvement. We see the best results on men and women with mild skin sagging and/or wrinkles on the upper face, lower face, and neck, or chest, who want to smooth and lift skin in these areas and stay “ahead of the game” regarding visible aging. Our typical patient is in their 30s or older. However, each patient is different, and we’ll help you decide the most appropriate treatment at your consultation.
Ultrasound energy has a proven track record, with use in the field of medicine for more than 50 years. Over 1 million Ultherapy treatments have been performed globally to date. No serious adverse events were observed during the clinical study evaluation of the Ulthera System. Choosing an experienced provider is essential to ensure your safety with Ultherapy or any cosmetic procedure.
