Few of us escape frown lines as we age—those vertical lines between our eyebrows that make us look like we’re worried or angry all the time. If you’re bothered by the way frown lines make you look, our experienced La Jolla Cosmetic Medical Spa pros can help with a wrinkle treatment called Xeomin® (pronounced “zee-oh-min”).Get the 5-star patient care you deserve at LJCSC
How Xeomin works
Frown lines (a.k.a. glabellar lines) are a result of repeated facial expressions such as squinting and, of course, frowning. After awhile, the tiny muscles beteween your brow learn to contract habitually, even when you’re not actively frowning. Xeomin temporarily paralyzes these muscles, helping them relax and “unlearn” the habit. As a result, your frown lines become less severe and your face appears more youthful and refreshed.
Xeomin is FDA approved to smooth frown lines, but can also be used to address other expression lines around the eyes and forehead (i.e., crow’s feet or brow furrows).
Your Xeomin treatment at LJCSC
Xeomin is injected directly into the muscle in specific points. Treatments are performed during an office appointment, by one of our experienced providers.
Injections take about 10 to 15 minutes to perform, and while most patients don’t find Xeomin injections painful, we’ll give you an ice pack to place on the area prior to treatment to maximize comfort.
Following treatment, you can return to most normal activities, but refrain from laying down for 4 hours after treatment. You should also avoid strenuous exercise for about 24 hours.
Since 1988, more than 30,000 patients have had safe, successful procedures at La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre.
Same Day & Late Appointments
Xeomin treatments can be done in our La Jolla office by appointment, and you may be able to come in on the same day you call! We reserve time in our schedules for injectable appointments.
We can also see you during your lunch break, or in the evening on certain days of the week. Call 858-452-1981 to check availability.
Xeomin vs. BOTOX vs. Dysport: what’s the difference?
Xeomin is made from the same key ingredient as BOTOX and Dysport: botulinum toxin type A. The main difference is that Xeomin is a “naked” neurotoxin—there are no buffer proteins around the botulinum molecules, as there are in BOTOX and Dysport. This quality may make Xeomin a better option for certain patients:
- Xeomin can spread more readily. Without the buffer proteins, Xeomin can move along the muscles a little more quickly than other neurotoxins.
- Results may be visible more quickly with Xeomin than BOTOX. Average onset of results is 3 to 4 days with Xeomin, vs. about 7 to 10 days with BOTOX.
In the end, all three neuromodulators are safe, effective products, and any cost difference is usually negligible. They all last about the same amount of time, too: 3 to 4 months for most patients.
We have many years of experience with all three options at LJCSC, and find that each product has its fan club. The best way to determine the right product for you is to come in and talk with one of our talented providers.
