Let La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre bring your features in harmony

Did you know that your chin plays an important role in the overall balance, proportion, and attractiveness of your face? Those with a weak or recessed chin may find that it detracts from other features, makes the face look imbalanced, and gives the appearance of a weak jawline or thick neck.

Improving facial contours with a chin implant

Chin Augmentation is an operation to improve your facial profile if you have a weak chin. Usually, this is achieved by creating a pocket or space in front of your chin bone into which an implant is placed. The incision or approach for making the pocket can be inside your lower lip or under your chin.

Each approach has advantages. The most obvious advantage of making the incision inside the mouth is that there is no visible scar. The advantage of making the incision under the chin is that the best placement of the implant is easier to achieve.

Your cost for chin enlargement at LJCSC will range between $4,600 – $5,000. The actual price of your procedure will depend on your specific anatomy, operating time involved, surgical technique used, and type of anesthesia. Chin enhancement without an implant

An alternative operation to chin augmentation using a customized chin implant is a procedure known as a “sliding or advancement genioplasty.” In this procedure, the “chin bone” is cut horizontally and moved forward. The bone is then fixed in the new position with metal “appliances” and screws. While plastic surgeons perform this procedure, it is most commonly performed by oral surgeons. In general, this operation is usually performed when the receding chin is very severe.

Since 1988, more than 32,000 patients have had safe, successful procedures at La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre.

In either case, preoperative planning with your plastic surgeon will have determined how much correction and what sized implant will be used. Imaging will be done first so you can actually “see” what the result would look like with more or less correction.

The operation causes temporary swelling in the chin and lower lip areas. Some discomfort occurs that can be controlled with pain pills. The two biggest risks are that the implant can become infected or can shift out of position. Great care is taken during surgery to reduce those risks.

Combining procedures for an enhanced result

Chin augmentation is frequently performed at the same time as Rhinoplasty (Nasal Reshaping). This can create a significant improvement in balancing the facial profile so the results can often be dramatic!
