ProFractional is a fractional laser, which means it ablates only a fraction of the skin in the treatment area, leaving the majority of it intact. It’s designed to minimize lots of different skin concerns with minimal downtime, including:
Uneven skin texture
Unlike full resurfacing, which removes the entire surface area of a treatment site, ProFractional uses a narrow diameter microbeam to treat only a percentage of the skin. Why does this matter? It means treatment is more comfortable, your skin heals faster, and you’re back to your daily routine as soon as possible.

How Does ProFractional Work?
ProFractional uses laser energy to create thousands of microscopic channels in the skin which are surrounded by areas of healthy, untreated skin. The zones of untreated skin stimulate your body’s natural healing process, and the treated areas stimulate the production of new collagen, plumping up your skin and smoothing out wrinkles, lines, scars, and other irregularities.
Who Is a Good Candidate for ProFractional?
The ideal candidate for ProFractional is someone who wants noticeable skin rejuvenation with little downtime. ProFractional is safe and effective for most skin types. Results are long-lasting and you’ll experience more and more improvement with each treatment.

What Areas of the Body Can Get Profractional Treatment?
ProFractional is a wonderful treatment for facial rejuvenation. The neck and chest are other commonly treated areas.
How Should I Prepare for My Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatment?
We strongly recommend starting a pre-conditioning skincare program 2 weeks before your treatment. This includes applications of SkinMedica® Retinol and Lytera (skin lightener). We’ll tell you everything you need to know at your initial consultation.
How Long Does the ProFractional Treatment Take?
ProFractional is a fast, safe, low-discomfort treatment that takes about 40 to 60 minutes to perform, depending on the area. We’ll apply numbing cream 60 minutes prior to the treatment to make sure you’re very comfortable.
Enjoy Pain-Free Laser Skin Resurfacing With PRO-NOX™
You deserve a comfortable experience, so we now offer PRO-NOX as an add-on during laser treatments and other medical spa services.
What Is PRO-NOX?
PRO-NOX is a self-administered nitrous oxide (laughing gas) system that allows you to be in full control of your comfort. If at any point you feel you need something to take the edge off, simply breathe through the PRO-NOX mouthpiece for instant relief from pain and anxiety.
Unlike oral pain medication, PRO-NOX takes effect in seconds, but wears off minutes after your treatment, leaving no trace of the chemical in your body. You can safely drive and return to your normal routine without worrying about side effects.
Ask us about adding PRO-NOX to your treatment at your consultation!
How Soon Will I See Results After Laser Skin Resurfacing?
You should notice results after just a single treatment with continued improvement over time. On average, people need 4 to 6 treatments to get the best results. If you’re looking for an extra boost, you may also combine ProFractional with a MicroLaser Peel or a chemical peel to further enhance your results.
How Many ProFractional Treatments Will I Need?
ProFractional results are predictable and very long-lasting. Initially, you should plan on completing a series of 2 to 5 treatments spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart.
What Is Laser Skin Resurfacing Recovery Like?
Initially, you may experience some pinpoint bleeding and 2 to 4 days of redness and swelling, depending on the depth of treatment. Most people get back to work and applying makeup within 1 or 2 days.
How Should I Care for My Skin After a ProFractional Treatment?
We’ll give you a list of post-treatment care instructions, which may include skincare products (we’ll tell you how to use them). Your skin will be more sensitive to UV light after the treatment, so it’s super important to wear sunscreen and protect the treated areas from sun exposure.
How Much Does ProFractional Laser Skin Resurfacing Cost?
At our San Diego med spa, the cost of ProFractional is typically $475 to $1,800. Your price may vary depending on the size of your treated area and the number of treatments you need. Get all the info you need about costs on our pricing page.
