How does laser vein removal work?
A: We use a laser to deliver pulses of light energy into your vein vessels, which causes the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually breaking up the vessel and allowing it to be reabsorbed back into your body. This allows blood flow to be redirected to deeper veins below the skins surface. Although no compression stockings are needed after laser treatment, there is slight period of healing time where you will need to protect your veins from sun, heat and high impact exercise.
How many treatments will I need?
A: For laser vein removal, we recommend a series of 3-6 treatments for most patients, although small vascular lesions such as cherry angioma’s usually disappear after just one treatment. Your results can be apparent as soon as 2 weeks up to 6 weeks after treatment.
Are there any side effects to the procedure?
A: Bruising is the most common side effect with vein treatments. Bruising can be minimized and prevented by discontinuing blood thinners such as aspirin or ibuprofen, fish oil, Vitamin E, and St. Johns wart for a few days prior to treatment.
The natural supplement Arnica can also help prevent and relieve any bruising and is available at our office in topical and oral form. After laser vein removal treatments, a slightly raised, red reaction in the treated area is normal and typically resolves in 1-2 days.Since 1988, more than 32,000 patients have had safe, successful procedures at La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre.
