Just starting to see a bit of jowling or sagging skin on your neck? If you don’t want to wait until it’s time for a facelift to treat these signs of aging, you’re in luck! Ultherapy, available at our San Diego medical spa, is a nonsurgical, no-downtime treatment FDA cleared to lift and tighten skin on your neck, lower face, and brow area, and improve lines and wrinkles on the décolletage. It uses ultrasound energy to reverse these signs of aging for a more youthful, refined look.

With new treatments hitting the market all the time, it’s tempting to focus only on the latest technology—but wouldn’t you rather focus on a treatment that’s delivered great results for thousands of patients? Ultherapy has won top honors from the aesthetics industry’s leading publication, New Beauty, for 5 years in a row, including the Tried & True Skin Tightener award.

What Is Ultherapy?

Ultherapy is the only noninvasive treatment FDA cleared to lift skin on the neck, chin, and brow as well as to improve wrinkles on the décolletage. Ultherapy uses micro-focused ultrasound energy (the same technology used in imaging) to lift and tighten the skin. The ultrasound waves work deep below the surface—without needles or surgery—to firm, tighten, and lift.

What Can Ultherapy Do for Me?

Just 1 or 2 Ultherapy treatments will help you achieve a sleeker, better-defined jawline and tighter skin on the neck under the chin. With Ultherapy, you can:

  • Lift and firm sagging skin on the cheeks, which in turn can improve folds around the nose, mouth, and jaw and lift drooping corners of the mouth.
  • Promote a more open, refreshed look to your eyes by tightening skin in the brow area.
  • Improve skin texture and balance out color.
  • Strengthen and reinforce your collagen “cushion” for a firmer, more youthful complexion overall.

Ultherapy isn’t a substitute for facelift surgery, but it can be the perfect solution to treat early jowling and sagging or to gain moderate improvements in your neck and jawline if you prefer a nonsurgical option.

What Areas Can I Have Treated?

Ultherapy is designed to treat the entire upper or lower face, neck, or chest. We can treat your:

  • Lower face
  • Neck
  • Forehead
  • Temples
  • Décolletage

…or all of the above! We’ll tailor your treatment plan to what you need.

Our Promises To You

How Does Ultherapy Work?

If you’ve ever had an ultrasound before, Ultherapy treatment will seem familiar. One of our experienced medical spa providers will place a smooth applicator on your skin, which projects an image onto a screen. The device will then deliver low levels of focused heat at just the right depth below the skin, leaving the skin’s surface undisturbed.

What happens after that? Your skin responds to the energy by triggering new collagen production. This is good news, because the collagen forms sturdy support for your skin, giving it natural lift and firmness over time. You’ll see some immediate tightening and lifting, but optimal results are apparent after 2 to 3 months.

Am I a Good Candidate for Ultherapy?

A good candidate for Ultherapy is bothered by some degree of skin laxity. Their skin looks and feels less firm than they would like, and they don’t want or need surgery to achieve their desired level of improvement.

We see the best results on men and women with mild skin sagging and/or wrinkles on the upper face, lower face, and neck, or chest, who want to smooth and lift skin in these areas and stay “ahead of the game” when it comes to visible aging.

Most candidates are in their 30s or older. However, each person is different, and we’ll help you decide the most appropriate treatment at your consultation.

What Does Ultherapy Feel Like?

Comfort levels vary from person to person, but no anesthesia is required. Many people describe a temporary prickling or warm feeling as the ultrasound energy is delivered during treatment.

Enjoy Pain-Free Ultherapy With PRO-NOX™

You deserve a comfortable experience, so we now offer PRO-NOX as an add-on during Ultherapy and other medical spa services.

What Is PRO-NOX?

PRO-NOX is a self-administered nitrous oxide (laughing gas) system that allows you to be in full control of your comfort. If at any point you feel you need something to take the edge off, simply breathe through the PRO-NOX mouthpiece for instant relief from pain and anxiety.

Unlike oral pain medication, PRO-NOX takes effect in seconds but wears off minutes after your treatment, leaving no trace of the chemical in your body. You can safely drive and return to your normal routine without worrying about side effects.

Ask us about adding PRO-NOX to your treatment at your consultation!

Your Safety Is
Our #1 Priority

Since 1988, more than 36,000 patients have had safe, successful procedures at La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre & Medical Spa.

What Kind of Results Can I Expect from Ultherapy?

The collagen-building process starts right away, but the full effect will develop gradually over the next 2 to 3 months. In the FDA clinical trial, 9 out of 10 people had a noticeable, significant lift of the brow line. This resulted in a more open look to the eyes and a more youthful appearance overall.

People reported firmer, tighter, better-fitting skin in other areas of the face and neck as well. Smoother texture and more even skin color are possible bonus benefits.

How Long Do Ultherapy Results Last?

Because Ultherapy stimulates your own collagen production, how long the results last depends on the individual. Most patients produce new collagen up to 1 year after treatment. Of course, your skin will continue its natural aging process, so you may need to schedule a periodic touch-up treatment to maintain your results.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

We’ll determine that at your consultation, but most people are happy after just 1 or 2 treatments in each area. We’ll take before-and-after photos to help you see the difference and decide if you would like additional treatments.

Is Ultherapy Safe?

Ultherapy uses ultrasound energy, which has been used in medical imaging and therapeutics, such as sonograms, for over 50 years, and clinical studies have confirmed the safety of this latest application. As with any medical procedure, there are general safety considerations, which your physician will review with you.

How Much Does Ultherapy Cost?

The cost of Ultherapy at our San Diego medical spa is typically $1,150 to $4,650. Your price will vary depending on your goals and the area(s) you are having treated.

More Ultherapy FAQs

Have more questions about Ultherapy? We have answers!

Q: How is Ultherapy different from other cosmetic treatments?

A: First, Ultherapy is noninvasive. There are no needles, no ablative lasers, and no downtime. The treatment takes 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the area(s) treated. Second, it is the only cosmetic skin tightening treatment that uses ultrasound energy, which allows our providers to see the tissue layers that are targeted during treatment and direct the ultrasound energy where it’s needed most.

Q: How is Ultherapy different from laser skin tightening treatments?

A: Ultherapy is the only skin rejuvenation treatment that uses ultrasound to image and treat the skin, and, unlike many lasers, it does so without removing layers of skin, eliminating the need for downtime and minimizing the risk of scarring. The ultrasound in Ultherapy stimulates collagen production in the skin’s foundation, helping achieve a visible lift in just 2 to 3 months for the typical person.

Q: Can Ultherapy replace a facelift?

A: While Ultherapy treats the deep tissue layers of the face and/or neck, a noninvasive treatment cannot achieve the same results as surgery. For significant skin sagging or jowling, a surgical facelift is still likely your best option for dramatic improvements. However, for people with mild to moderate sagging, Ultherapy can be an excellent alternative to a facelift to achieve noticeable, long-lasting skin tightening and lifting.

Q: Are there any side effects?

A: Your skin may appear a bit flushed after treatment, but any redness should disappear within a few hours. You may also feel mild tenderness, swelling, or tingling under the treated areas, which is normal and temporary.

Q: What does collagen do (and how does Ultherapy help me make more of it)?

A: Collagen is a natural protein that gives skin its youthfulness by keeping it firm and toned. As we age, collagen breaks down, resulting in a loss of skin elasticity. This can lead to wrinkles, sagging, and general loss of skin tone. Ultherapy uses micro-focused ultrasound to generate a thermal effect, which essentially jump-starts the collagen production process, helping your skin rebuild collagen from within.
