Yes, there is a hair loss treatment that can help you get a fuller, natural hairline.

What are the first steps you should take when you notice hair thinning?

First of all: Do not panic! Hair thinning is very common among men and women and we can help. If you are experiencing progressive or persistent hair thinning, I encourage you to set up an appointment with me at La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre. We will rule out potential medical problems that could be causing the condition and present treatment options that can help you slow or even reverse hair loss.

Can supplements and topical products help with hair loss?

The absolute answer to that is YES! There are available several different oral and topical products as well as supplements that will help slow down, decrease, or in some cases reverse hair loss. The key aspect is to find the one that it is right for you. Therefore, it is crucial that you are evaluated by an experienced hair restoration professional.

When should you consider hair transplants with SmartGraft®?

It is worth considering hair transplants anytime after you start seeing sections of noticeable hair loss in specific areas—especially given the hair transplantation process is now much easier and more effective.

SmartGraft® hair transplantation is currently the most effective treatment for:

  • Mild to severe hereditary or pattern baldness
  • Patients with specific areas of hair loss
  • Restoring natural hair growth over scars on the scalp or the face
  • Shaping the hairline after a reconstructive or aesthetic procedure (e.g., face lift, browlift)

What are some benefits of SmartGraft® over manual FUE techniques?

SmartGraft® is the latest technology in FUE (follicular unit extraction), and the only system that treats the hair follicle the way it “deserves” to be treated—like a true living organ. The hair follicle that is being transplanted needs to be handled with extreme care and under very specific conditions. These conditions are much better provided by SmartGraft than by any other FUE technology or method.

Additionally, SmartGraft® has numerous benefits over older “strip surgery” hair transplants. The procedure is done in-office with local anesthesia, and there are no scalpel incisions—each follicle unit is carefully extracted with an instrument the size of a pin, so there is no linear scar, and little to no downtime is needed.

Can SmartGraft® treat different types of hair loss?

Absolutely! SmartGraft® can treat nearly all types of hair loss; in fact, there are very few patients who are not candidates to undergo a hair restoration procedure with SmartGraft®. In order to know if you are a good candidate—or even one of the very few that would not benefit from this treatment—feel free to come and have a complimentary appointment with me at La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre.

Will you need more than one SmartGraft® procedure?

You may or you may not. One thing that it is important for patients to understand is that SmartGraft® hair transplantation is extremely effective compared to older hair transplant methods, with an uptake rate in the high 90% range. Depending on the severity of the problem, some patients may need a second session; however, the great majority of patients are very satisfied with the first session.

How long will the hair transplants last?

We transplant hair from the back of the head (occipital area) to the affected areas. The hair on the back of your head has great genetics and is most resistant hair to hair loss (this is why you see so many men who are completely bald on the front and top, but still have hair on the back of their heads).

These transplanted hair follicles maintain their original genetics; in other words, they live and grow hair just as they did in their original location. Therefore the lifespan of the transplanted hair is extremely long. In simple words…although there are no guarantees, we could almost say “forever.”

Now that you know a little more about hair loss treatments, take a closer look at your options.

This visual guide outlines what options you have if you are experiencing mild, moderate, or severe hair loss. Of course, the best way to narrow down your options is to come in for a free consultation and allow me to make recommendations based on my experience and evaluation of your current situation, your goals, and your “hair loss history.” I look forward to meeting you!
