What Are the Benefits of Septorhinoplasty?

Septorhinoplasty’s main benefits include improving nasal function and creating a more refined nasal appearance.

People choose septorhinoplasty for additional benefits such as:

  • Improved airflow and easier breathing
  • Correction of a deviated septum
  • Enhanced nasal shape and profile
  • More balanced and symmetrical facial features
  • Boosted self-confidence in personal and professional settings

The procedure truly offers the best of both worlds, enabling you to breathe easier while perfecting your profile!

How Is Septorhinoplasty Performed?

Septorhinoplasty at LJCSC is performed under general anesthesia at our Quad A-accredited surgical facility. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Your surgeon will carefully correct a deviated septum by repositioning or removing cartilage and bone to open the nasal airways.
  • Simultaneously, cosmetic changes—such as refining a dorsal hump, reshaping the nasal tip, or correcting asymmetry—are made to improve nasal aesthetics.
  • Depending on your specific needs, your surgeon may use an open (small incision at the base of the nose) or closed (incisions inside the nostrils) approach.

The procedure typically takes 1 to 2 hours, and you’ll return home the same day to begin your recovery.

What To Expect During Your Septorhinoplasty Recovery

After septorhinoplasty, following your surgeon’s advice is essential to minimize swelling and reduce the risk of bleeding. Rest assured, our care team provides personalized guidance on the necessary precautions and how long to maintain them. Typical recommendations after surgery may include:

  • Sleeping with your head propped up to decrease swelling.
  • Refraining from blowing your nose to protect the healing tissues.
  • Choosing clothing that doesn’t need to be pulled over your head to avoid accidental contact with your nose.
  • Steering clear of high-impact activities like jogging or vigorous cardio exercises.

Final results from septorhinoplasty can take up to a year to fully refine as internal swelling resolves. We’ll monitor your progress closely throughout your recovery and provide personalized guidance to ensure the safest healing journey.

Septorhinoplasty FAQs

Will I have visible scars after septorhinoplasty?

If an open approach is used, there may be a small, barely noticeable scar at the base of the nose. Closed septorhinoplasty leaves all incisions inside the nostrils, resulting in no external scarring. Our surgeons always meticulously conceal your scars to prevent “evidence” of your surgery.

What are the risks of septorhinoplasty?

While major complications are rare, septorhinoplasty, like any surgical procedure, carries some risks. These include bleeding, infection, adverse reaction to anesthesia, scarring, and persistent swelling. Specific to septorhinoplasty, there is also a risk of breathing difficulties, changes in nasal shape, septal perforation, or the need for revision surgery. Our experienced, board-certified plastic surgeons minimize these risks for a safe, successful outcome.

How is septorhinoplasty different from rhinoplasty?

While rhinoplasty focuses primarily on enhancing the nose’s cosmetic appearance, septorhinoplasty addresses both aesthetic concerns and functional issues, such as breathing difficulties caused by a deviated septum. This combined approach improves nasal form and function in a single procedure.
