Labia Minoraplasty

A Labiaplasty of the labia minora (the smaller inner vaginal lips) addresses the enlarged irregular or uneven tissue that can sometimes be caused by child birth, hormonal changes or just plain genetics. Enlarged labia can cause problems with wearing certain tight clothing such as bathing suits or excersise clothing. It can also be a source of chronic irritation or discomfort during sexual intimacy. The labia plasty meticulously reshapes the large uneven edges of the inner vaginal lips and shrinks them down. We let the patient choose the appearance she wants, from minimal presence of the labia; the so called “complete” labiaplasty” or “Barbieplasty” to a more anatomic reduction of the volume leaving some tissue behind. This is part of the discussion you will have with Dr Brahme at your consultation. The surgery takes 60-90 minutes and is usually performed under sedation, so you will have no memory of the procedure itself. The recovery is quick and you will be back to normal activities rapidly.

Labia Majoraplasty

Labia majoraplasty (surgery of the larger outer vagial lips) is performed for patients who have disproportionally large labia majora, sometimes from childbirth or sometimes from estrogen stimulation. It also produces a dramatic improvement in vulvar appearance in patients who have lost a large amount of weight, when all tissues loose elasticity. Like the labia minoraplasty it is an outpatient procedure performed in our operating suites under local anesthesia with sedation, this procedure also has a short recovery time and rapid return to work and normal activity.

In addition, many San Diego labiaplasty patients elect to undergo simultaneous vaginal rejuvenation, which is sometimes called vaginoplasty.
