Chin Enlargement in San Diego

Did you know that your chin plays an important role in the overall balance, proportion, and attractiveness of your face? Men and women with a weak or recessed chin may find that it detracts from other features, makes the face look imbalanced, and gives the appearance of a weak jawline or thick neck. Design your dream jawline and bring your facial features into harmony with chin augmentation in San Diego.

At La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre & Medical Spa, you have the expertise of highly trained, board-certified plastic surgeons on your side. Whether you’re looking for a more masculine chin or simply want to improve your profile, you’ve never had better options for making it happen.

How Does Chin Augmentation With an Implant Work?

Chin augmentation is an operation to improve your facial proportions if you have a weak chin. Usually, this is achieved by creating a pocket or space in front of your chin bone into which an implant is placed. The incision for making the pocket can be placed inside your lower lip or under your chin.

Each incision location has advantages. The most obvious advantage of making the incision inside the mouth is that there is no visible scar. The advantage of making the incision under the chin is that it’s easier to place the implant exactly where you want it.

How Does Chin Augmentation Without an Implant Work?

An alternative to chin augmentation using a customized chin implant is a procedure known as a sliding or advancement genioplasty. In this procedure, the chin bone is cut horizontally and moved forward. The bone is then fixed in the new position with metal appliances and screws.

While plastic surgeons perform this procedure, it is most commonly performed by oral surgeons. In general, this operation is usually best for when a receding chin is very severe.

Our Promises To You

Which Chin Augmentation Approach Is Right for Me?

Don’t stress about choosing the right approach on your own. That’s what your consultation is for! When you meet with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons, you’ll discuss your desired results to decide which procedure would best help you achieve them. With computer imaging, you’ll also get to “see” what the result would look like with more or less correction.

You and your surgeon may also talk about complementary procedures to complete your look. For example, lots of people choose to have chin augmentation done at the same time as rhinoplasty. This makes a big difference in your profile while maintaining a look that’s uniquely you.

What Is Chin Augmentation Recovery Like?

Chin implant surgery causes temporary swelling in the chin and lower lip areas. You may feel some discomfort, but medication should keep it to a minimum. Most people return to work and their usual activities in 4 days or so.

Is Chin Augmentation Safe?

In the hands of a trained and board-certified plastic surgeon, chin augmentation is generally a safe procedure. The 2 biggest risks are that the implant can become infected or can shift out of position, but our team takes every precaution to minimize these risks.

Your surgery will take place in our AAAASF-accredited surgical suite while you’re under the care of board-certified anesthesiologist. Our surgeons and surgical staff follow the highest standards of safety to keep your likelihood of complications very low.
